Friday 28th March
Today we farewelled two special people in our class.
Max is moving to Balclutha and Hamish is moving to Waimate in South Canterbury (Miss McCulloch's country!)
Thank you for all you have contributed to Clutha Valley Primary School.
We look forward to hearing from you both in the future.
All the best from the Matai Team.
This week we also welcomed Emily into the Matai Team.
Emily has moved down from Te Aroha in the North Island and has settled in well to life in South Otago.

In Matai every Friday we have a Basic Facts test this is timed and if our time improves we move up the ladder.
To make sure we are improving our results as well as times if we get an answer wrong this adds 5 seconds to our original time.
If a time was 3.35 and we got 3 answers wrong it then becomes 3.50 and our name goes in that space.
As you can see there are many styles of how to write down the answer quickly!
Here is a video of us in action!

Thusday 20 March
Check out our new hats for the 'Cat in the Hat'! You will see these in the office foyer.
When designing our hats we had to make sure they had some sort of pattern- like the original.
We also had to use contrasting colours like Andy Warhol and his pop art.
Pop in and check out all our other awesome art that you may see on our walls.
Here is a sample of what you may see around the school below.
Thursday 13 March
Dr Seuss has turned 102 so in the Matai Team we celebrated by designing new hats for 'The Cat in the Hat!'
Check out how hard we were all working to make our hats look awesome!
Keep an eye out for our finished products.
Friday 7 March
Last night was the touch finals for all schools in South Otago. I was so impressed with the standard of games and the touch skills on display! Top job to the children who have played touch this season you have represented Clutha Valley well.
The Valley Crushers in action.
The Valley Demons playing hard!
Well done to all those that have given touch a go. It is great to see so many children outside having fun with their classmates!

These 8 people are representing at the South Otago Swimming Sports tonight. We look forward to hearing how you go.
Good luck to- Max, Adam, Jade, Ally, Kadys, Logan, Oliver and Josie.
Welcome to the Matai Team 2014 blog page!
We are going to update this at least 2 times a week to keep you informed of what is happening in our wonderful team!
On the first day of school we all noticed a few changes. 11 new children joined our class from the Manatu Team. We now have 27 children in our class. Everyone was very excited to play some 'Get to know you' activities and find out who we would be sitting beside!
For the first two weeks we have been going swimming daily. In week one we were lucky enough to get some coaching from Sharon McKinnell and Mrs Hunter. Since this coaching has finished we are fortunate to have some parents willing to help us learn more!
The value we are looking at for the first few weeks is respect. Here are some ways that we can show respect.
- Hold the door open for someone. Dante
- Help/Support others to do their best. Logan, Adam
- Try your best. Ally
- Use your manners. Jericho
- Leave other peoples property. Angus
- Use the gift of listening. Lachlan
- Use equipment for their correct purpose. Max
Over the next few weeks we have lots happening around the school! We have swimming sports, athletic sports, the flower show, saveloys, garden club and sports starting e.g hockey and touch!
Keep an eye out for us and what we are up to!
