Week Nine Term 1, 2014
This week we had our visit to the Beggs house as part of our 'Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow' topic. We had the best time, exploring and learning all about life in the past and discovering different things that were used. Thank you Carman and Ross for opening your home and making our trip so enjoyable/memorable.
Week Eight Term 1, 2014
Thank you to all those parents who came in support for our trip to the Early Settlers museum.
We had a lot of fun dressing up and getting into role as we explored life as an early settler. We discovered all kinds of things from the past on a treasure hunt through the museum and checked out photos of the very first early setters. The highlight for many being Josephine the train. This train is unique to other trains because it has two front ends.
Week Five Term 1, 2014
Kanuka team have been busy learning about Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. We have been looking at transport in the past. We were lucky enough to have a visitor (Colin Criag) who brought his 1950's Bedford truck and horse and cart model. We enjoyed exploring Colin's truck and finding out how it worked.
Week Two, Term 1, 2014
The Kanuka team have done some amazing artwork which is displayed on the Kowhai wall; along with a shared poem that describes all different cats. Check out our pictures of our jazzy cats where we used just three colours to make a bold piece of artwork that would stand out.

Discovery Time
On Friday we had our first Discovery Time for the year. The children had an absolute blast - they were engaged in their learning and out to discover and learn something new. We focused on being respectful and relating to others during the session. At the end of Discovery Time we reported back to the class about what we had discovered. Way to go Kanuka team - you were all so amazing at finding the things you love to learn and do.
Rory, Marco and Riley are sorting out vehicles together:
George, Elliot, Lucy and Alfie are discovering new things about cats and making a book to show their new learning:
The great circle hunt. Here are just some of the circles found in the school. Can you work out where each one was found?

Get Set Go - Our first session on balance
Some warm-up activities that got us ready for our session, made us laugh and focused in on fabulous team work.
Here we are balancing in a few different ways - Arms out like aeroplanes and keep your eye focused on something. You can do it Kanuka!

Week One, 2014
What a week we have had! Lots of things have been happening, especially in the swimming pool. Every day the team has been in the pool for two swimming lessons a day. The children have made noticeable improvements in their first week back. If you would like to help at swimming time (2.15pm to 3pm) please let us know at school.
