TRANSITION SESSIONS
The Kowhai class has been running a transition to school programme for two years now where children starting school in the coming year and their parents are invited to come to the Kowhai classroom on a fortnightly basis for an afternoon session. Those attending are welcome to stay for the rest of the afternoon. You will need to bring lunch, sunhat and a change of clothing.
Children will take part in a range of activities that will prepare them for school. This will help them to adjust to life at Clutha Valley Primary School so they can become familiar with the school surroundings, children and staff. For further information please contact rebecca@cluthavalley.school.nz
Our last transition session for Term One, 2014 is: Wednesday 9 April 2014, 12.30pm to 3pm

GRANDPARENTS DAY
We are planning a celebration day on Tuesday 15 April to end our unit, “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” To give families some notice we are asking students to come dressed in clothes that students may have worn in the past. Please don’t go to a lot of trouble!! More details about activities planned for the day will be included in future newsletters.

KIA KAHA
Over the next few weeks the students throughout the school will be taking part in the programme Kia Kaha. This is a programme developed by the New Zealand Police Education Service, which is designed to help create safe positive classrooms in which bullying cannot flourish, for your child/children. It will be taught by the classroom teacher together with help from the police education officer from Gore.
Ideas which are included are:
  • Accepting difference in other people.
  • Appropriate behaviour.
  • Knowing what bullying is and is not.
  • Knowing about safe practices.
  • Asking for help.
  • Making safe choices.
  • Understanding the consequences of behaviour.
  • Playing and working well with others.
There may be some homework activities which ask for some parent assistance. We would ask that you contribute and reinforce the messages and skills that the students will be learning. If you would like any further information about the programme please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher.
